The New Sharon Star, July 11, 1940: Obituary. Alpehus HOLTON, son of David and Clarissa HOLTON, was born in Barry, Ill., December 3, 1865, and departed this life July 2, 1940, at the age of 74 years, six months and 29 days. In 1897 he was united in marriage to Nancy HOLTON. To this union was born one son, Archie. His wife preceded him in death November 15, 1930. Several years ago he confessed his faith in God and became a member of the United Brethren Church in Pawnee County, Nebraska. In 1913 he moved from Nebraska to Iowa and has made his home in and around Union Mills since that time. He leaves to mourn his death one son, Archie HOLTON of Rose Hill, and three step-children, Charlie HOLTON of Seymour, Sam HOLTON of Des Moines, and Clarissa COLE of New Sharon, where he has made his home for the past three years. One grandson Wayne HOLTON, and two sisters Rosa PATTON of Oskaloosa, and Sara VanCAMP of Quincy, Ill., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, July 4 at 2 o'clock at the Union Mills Christian Church with Ralph E. McCAULEY, Pastor of the Assembly of God Tabernacle, officiating. Mrs. R.C. DUFFUS and Mrs. Homer DUNWOODY, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Ray GERARD, sang "In the Garden" and "Just Inside the Eastern Gate." Casket bearers were Arthur SWAN, Will RANDALL, Walter BURGGRAAF, Will GROVES, Tracy SWISHER and Clyde GRAHAM. Interment was in the Union Mills Cemetery.
