DONALD W. STOWELL, Winterset

Donald Warren Stowell, 68, of Winterset died May 17, 2001, of pulmonary fibrosis at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 21, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial was at Greenfield Cemetery.

Don Stowell was born May 27, 1932, in Adair County to Herbert and Ona Jane (Beaman) Stowell. He married Shirley M. Piper on Aug. 26, 1951, in Adair County. Don, who had resided in Winterset for the past 35 years, was retired as owner and manager of the Winterset Farm & Home Store. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a member of the Winterset Kiwanis Club and the First Baptist Church in Winterset. He also had been on the Wintersest Planning and Zoning Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Winterset; a son Duane Stowell (wife Marty) of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Diane Pettit (husband Roger) of Rowlett, Texas; four brothers, Eldon Stowell and Kenneth Stowell, both of Greenfield, Herbert L. Stowell of Littleton, Colo., and Ernest Stowell of Winterset; a sister, Helen Hohertz of Montrose, Calif; and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.

Donald Warren Stowell, 68, of Winterset died May 17, 2001 of pulmonary fibrosis at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were May 21 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Pastor Mike Carlson officiated the services and burial followed at Greenfield Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel and Funeral Services in Winterset.

He was born May 27, 1932 in Adair County to Herbert and Ona Jane (Beaman) Stowell. He married Shirley M. Piper on August 26, 1951 in Adair County. He was a Korean conflict veteran of the United States Army and had lived in Winterset for the last 35 years coming from Greenfield. He was retired as owner and manager of the Winterset Kiwanis Club and the First Baptist Church. He had also been on the Winterset Planning and Zoning Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one son Duane Stowell and wife Marty of Oskaloosa; one daughter Diane Pettit and husband Roger of Rowlett, Texas; four brothers Eldon Stowell and Kenneth Stowell, both of Greenfield, Herbert L. Stowell of Littleton, Colorado and Ernest Stowell of Winterset; one sister Helen Hohertz of Montrose, California and three grandchildren.
