Nicholas Dorrell

Nicholas Dorrell (commonly called Deem) was born in Madison county, Iowa, February 3, 1857, and departed this life December 29, 1923, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 26 days.

He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Belcher, August 23, 1882. To this union were born seven children, one daughter and six sons. Three died in infancy.

He was converted to God when a young man. He first united with the Baptist church, later united with the Christian Union, and remained a faithful member. At the time of his going was a member of the state board of directors.

He leaves to mourn their loss a loving wife, one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Creason, of Doniphan, Nebraska; three sons as follows: Gold S. of St. Charles, John A., and W. L. of Des Moines. He leaves one brother and one sister, 16 grandchildren, two half brothers and at the death of his brother, Rev. Charles Dorrell, a number of years ago he took into his home his two orphaned sons, Rev. A. F. Dorrell of Lawson, Missouri, and C. L. Dorrell, of Boone, Iowa. Besides these he leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a good man always ready to sympathize and assist his fellow men. A man that loved his family and wanted them to do right and honor God and live good lives. During his last illness everything that could be done was done for his recovery. But his Master whom he had served so long had called and he must go. He said many times he was ready and waiting the call. We can truly say a good man has gone. The good wife has lost a faithful husband, the children a loving father, the brother and sister a true brother and the world a man.

The funeral was held in the Church of Christ at Winterset on Monday, December 31, conducted by Rev. J. G. McClelland, pastor of the Christian Union church of Milo, Ia., after which the remains were laid to rest in the old Baptist Cemetery.
