FORMER DRUGGIST DIES IN BROOKLYN

D. D. Bales, former Winterset drug man with Schwaner, Krabiel and Nunan, died at his home in Brooklyn, Iowa, Saturday, September 26. He ran a restaurant at Winterset a year or two before leaving Winterset. He and his wife had many friends in Winterset. The account of his death is from the Brooklyn Chronicle:

D. D. Bales, manager of the Rainsburg drugstore, died Saturday noon after a serious illness of about three weeks. For the past year Mr. Bales health had not been the best, but he had continued to be on duty at the store until two weeks ago and although it had been known for several days that his condition was serious he had been feeling better a few hours previous to his death and the news came as a shock to the town.

David D. Bales was born April 22, 1863 and grew to manhood at Maxwell, Iowa. He took up the drug business as a lifework in which he was engaged at Winterset, and Ames before coming to Brooklyn. Here he has been associated with the A. P. Rainsburg Drug company for the past six years.

September 15, 1905 he was married to Miss Nettie Stiffler at Winterset. His health has been failing for the past year, and he passed away Saturday noon, September 26.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Helen, Madeline, and Betty who are at home; two sons, Verne, in Washington, and Dale in Los Angeles; and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Scott in Bloomville, New York. One son, Amil, lost his life in an auto accident two years ago. Mr. Bales was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
