Thelma Stevens, 91, of Winterset, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Azria Health of Winterset.
Due to CDC recommendations on large gatherings, there will be no open visitation or funeral service. Services will be private. Website streaming will be available on her obituary tribute wall beginning at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Health Trust, First United Presbyterian Church, or EveryStep Hospice; mail to Sheryl Neri, 713 W. Mills, Winterset.
Thelma Marie Stevens was born February 13, 1929, in Earlham, Iowa to Everett and Pearl (Marston) Secrest. She grew up in the Earlham area and was a 1947 graduate of Earlham High School. On September 19, 1948, she married Harry “Pete” Stevens.
She was a bookkeeper and did secretarial work most of her working career. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset. She enjoyed quilting, gardening (especially iris), cooking, baking, sewing, dancing (Polka), loved watching sports (the Hawks and the Cyclones), and all the activities her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved with. Most of all, her family was first and foremost in her life.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Al) Neri of Winterset and Karen (Roy) Stroud of Murray; grandchildren, Sarah Roberg, Pete Neri, Megan Larson, and Taylor Stroud; great-grandsons, Grant Roberg and Brooks Neri; great-granddaughters, Gretta Roberg and Sloane Larson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Pearl (Marston) Secrest; mother-in-law, Velma Stevens; husband, Pete Stevens; brothers, Leland (Velma) Secrest and Marvin Secrest; brothers-in-law, Eldon (Fran) Stevens, Jack Stevens, Larry Stevens, and Wayne Gentry.
