JOHN M. HAYWOOD

John M. Haywood was born in Fountain county, Indiana, on April 24, 1841 and departed from this life on June 15, 1916, aged 75 years, 1 month and 21 days. Mr. Haywood enlisted in Company B, 10th Indiana regiment on September 18, 1861, at Indianapolis, Indiana and was honorably discharged from service at Indianapolis on September 18, 1864, and soon after was united in marriage to Miss Olive Gowins of Terre Haute, Indiana, and then came to the state of Iowa.

To this union were born nine children, two of whom survive him: Mrs. Pearl Donald of Chicago and George Haywood of Winterset; and two sisters: Mrs. Nancy Phillips, who lives at Hamburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Martha Saunders of New Harmony, Indiana.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. Frederick Donovan conducting, and the remains laid to rest in the family lot at Fairview cemetery.
