JOHN PORTER OF WINTERSET DIES

Death Comes Suddenly to Winterset Man at Age Of 47 Years

John W. Porter, a resident of this community for 35 years, died last Friday, July 6, at his home in Winterset. Death came suddenly. He was 47 years of age.

Mr. Porter was born in Adair county on Oct. 14, 1914, a son of James and Fern Porter. the family moved to this county 35 years ago. He was employed as a disc grinder and welder.

He was married March 15, 1937 to Madeline Brooker of Winterset. She survives him. He also leaves three children Marlys Ann Porter of Des Moines, Nelson D. Porter of Winterset and Martin J. Porter of the U. S. Marines, now stationed in Japan; his mother, Mrs. Fern Farwell; one grandchild; two brothers, James and Cecil Porter of Winterset; and three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Allen and Mrs. Ruth Lucas of California and Joy Croat of Missouri.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
