Page 1Death of Walter Wehrkamp
Van Meter, April 9. Special – Word was received here Wednesday, of the death of Walter Wehrkamp. He was thirty-three years old and had lived all his life here, with the exception of the last few years.
He had been living on a farm near Bismarck, North Dakota. His wife brought the body here Saturday morning and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Marion Brooker. Rev. J. H. Hampshire, pastor of the United Brethren church, had charge of the service. He was in the World war and the American Legion furnished the pall bearers and a firing squad. The burial was at the Trinity Lutheran cemetery, where his parents, Henry and Johanah Wehrkamp, were buried.
Those left to mourn his death are his wife, a sister, Mrs. Marion Brooker, and a brother, Albert Wehrkamp.

OBITUARY – Walter Wehrkamp was born in Jefferson township, Madison county, Iowa in 1895, and died, near his own home at Bismarck, North Dakota on April 3, 1929. He was married in 1927.
Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death one sister, Mrs. Marion Brooker; one brother, Albert Wehrkamp and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Marion Brooker home on Sunday, April 7 by Rev. Hampshire, of Van Meter. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery, Mr. Wehrkamp, having been Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was given a military funeral. Twelve American Legion members took charge. Walter was an enlisted soldier in the late World war.
