Melvin Berg, Winterset

Melvin Neckolie Berg, 90, of Winterset died of complications of pneumonia March 17, 2002 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. Bobby Dickerson officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Melvin Berg was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Garnes Township, Minn., to Hans and Anna (Johnson) Berg. He received his education in Plummer, Minn. He was united in marriage to Vera Banks in October of 1932 in Story City. They had four children. Following Vera's death in 1985, he was united in marriage to Lenore I. Husted in September of 1986 in Winterset. Over the years Melvin had been a farmer, bread salesman (14 years) and most recently, the custodian at the First Christian Church in Winterset (10 years). A resident of Madison County since 1974, he also had resided in Manchester, Mass., and Hartland, Wis. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a son.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore of Winterset; two sons, Melvin B. Berg Jr. of Oceanside, Calif.; and Kenneth D. Berg of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a daughter, Sandra L. Piper (husband Jim) of Carver, Mass.; a sister Louella DuCamp of Thief River Falls, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church in Winterset.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Truro and Osceola
