Page 3DEAN CAREY Of Winterset Dies
Dean L. Carey, a long-time resident of Madison County, died Thursday, March 16, 1961, at Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 71 years of age.
Mr. Carey was born at Jewell, Iowa, on April 2, 1889, a son of Lyman and Emma Clearwater Carey. His early life was spent at Winterset, where he engaged in the retail grocery business for many years. He had lived in Douglas township for the last 12 years.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World I, and was assigned to the officer's training school at Camp Pike Ark.
Mr. Carey was married Dec. 25, 1912, to Olive I. Tucker, who survives him. He also leaves a son, Charles Carey; two grandsons; and two brothers, Edgar Carey of St. Charles and Walter Carey of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Richards Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
