Richard Allen Gray, 60, of St. Charles died Jan. 27, 2006.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 30, at St. Charles Parish Church. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Rich Gray was born April 25, 1945, in Charles City to Richard Leo and Vanetta (Ayers) Gray. He graduated from Charles City High in 1963, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State in 1967, a Master of Arts from Truman University in 1971, and a Specialist’s Degree from Drake in 1997. Rich retired in 2001 following a 35-year career in education – most notably after 27 years as elementary principal in the Interstate 35 Community School District. Previously, he had taught and coached at North Tama in Traer. He also was a longtime leader of the St. Charles Parish, Lions International and Masonic Lodge. Rich was a wrestling official for 30 years – inducted into the Iowa High School Officials Hall of Fame in 2000 and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of St. Charles; one son, Brian Gray of rural Winterset; one daughter, Wendy Klinge of Des Moines; three sisters, Linda Rolph and Vicky Schroeder, both of Charles City, and Dianne Behnke of Waverly; and two grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be decided at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
