Services for Sidney J. Hartman, 91, Winterset, who died Oct. 2, at the Bethesda Care Center where he resided, were held Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Speas officiating. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery. A military graveside service was held by the American Legion Post No. 184.
Born in Carroll County, Iowa on April 20, 1897, he was the son of George V. and Mary Wycoff Hartman. Mr. Hartman was a retired farmer and had lived most of his lifetime in Madison County. He was a member of the American Legion post and the Farm Bureau and had served in the Army during World War I.
He was married to Dicy Marie Piatt, who died in 1936. He was married to F. Inez Bloomquist Brown at Grant City, Mo., on June 1, 1942.
Survivors include his wife: stepsons, Robert Brown of Des Moines, Donald Brown of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Gail Brown of West Des Moines; daughters, Verla Wilson and husband Arnold of Rome, N.Y. and Velma Alcorn and husband Glenn of Indianola; a sister, May Oleson of West Des Moines; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
