June 7, 1995Florence Inez Hartman, 87, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment June 2 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were June 6 at Early Chapel Christian Church in Madison County. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery in Madison County.
She was born December 7, 1907, in Oklahoma to B. August and Adela (Speer) Bloomquist. She married Gail Emery Brown on October 8, 1927, in Madison County. He preceded her in death. She married Sidney Hartman on June 1, 1942. She was a retired school teacher in the Winterset Community School system. She was a member of Madison County Farm Bureau; American Legion Auxiliary; Happy Holliwell Club; Hoosier Prairie Club; and Buffalo Gals. She was also the 1982 queen of the Covered Bridge Festival.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son; a step-daughter; three sisters and one brother.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Donald Brown and wife Cathy of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. and Gail A. Brown and wife Jean of West Des Moines; two step daughters, Verla Wilson and husband Arnold of Rome, New York, and Velma Alcorn and husband Glenn of Indianola; one daughter-in-law Lillian Brown of Des Moines; one brother, Carl Bloomquist of Earlham; three sisters, Elsie Beaman and husband Claude of Dexter, Augusta Rehard of Peru and Kathryn Heckner and husband B. J. of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
