Mrs. Clara B. Tilton, a resident of the Winterset community since early childhood, died Monday, March 18, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Tilton was born at Fremont, Nebr., on Jan. 10, 1888. She was the former Clara Belle Clampitt, daughter of David F. Annis (Miller) Clampitt.

She was married at Early Chapel church on Aug. 12, 1929 to Theodore A. Tilton. He preceded her in death.

As a young woman, she served as a school teacher in Madison county for 17 years. She was a member of the First Christian church of Winterset, and of the Woman's Relief corps.

Surviving are a son, Wayne Tilton of Sioux City; four grandchildren; a brother, Robert Lee Clampitt of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Lester Piatt of Earlham.

Funeral services were held Thursday from the First Christian church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. William E. Bowles. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
