Oscar A. Schwanebeck, a resident of Winterset for the last 20 years, died Christmas day, Dec. 25, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, where he had been a patient since last August. He was 83 years of age.
Mr. Schwanebeck was a native of the Fontanelle community in Adair county, where he lived until coming to Winterset. He was born Oct. 10, 1881, a son of Carl and Wilhelmina (Menke) Schwanebeck. He was baptized in Christian faith in 1883.
His active life was spent in farming, and he was a pioneer in the use of power equipment on the farm. He was a past member of the Masonic order.
He retired from active farming in 1945, and had made his home in Winterset since that time.
Mr. Schwanebeck was married Oct. 5, 1904 at Fontanelle to Elizabeth Winter, who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Otis, Wilfred and Audra Schwanebeck, all of Winterset. One son, Harry, died in 1931.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Milton Haldt. Burial was made in the Greenfield cemetery.
