Funeral services for Gladys Colleen Mapes, 88, were held Sat. Feb. 20 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Mrs. Mapes died February 17, 1993, at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

She was born in Madison County on November 14, 1904 to George and Alta (White) Bruett. She married Earl Stanley on December 16, 1926. After his death, she married Ralph Mapes on February 28, 1935 in Winterset. A homemaker, she lived most of her life in Madison County. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 105, the Crown Rebekah Lodge No. 360 and the First Christian Church.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, Earl Stanley, her second husband, Ralph Mapes; two sons; a brother; and two infant great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Gean H. and Dean H. Mapes, both of Winterset; two daughters, Mary E. Mundell and Donna I. Raber, both of Winterset; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
