MADGE K. STEVER

Madge Katherine Stever, 91, of Winterset died of complications of a stroke Dec. 7, 1998 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Jon Gaul officiating. Burial will be at Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the family receiving friends from 6:30-9 p.m.

Madge Stever was born April 10, 1907 in Tonganoxie, Kan. to Steven Alfred and Jessie Madge (Bowman) Thomas. She married Donald Alvin Stever Feb. 21, 1931, at Tonganoxie. She was a retired teacher, having taught for three years at Webster Township School in Madison County. She had resided in Winterset for 18 years. She previously lived in Harrison township, Adair County for 40 years. Madge was a member of the Winterset Art Center, Current Topic, Sunshine Garden Club, United Methodist Women, Rachel Circle and the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers; one sister; one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Donald Stever (wife Linda) of Longmont, Colo.; and Steve Stever (wife Barbara) of Woodburn, Ore.; three daughters, Lorretta Grasty (husband Bob) of Greenfield, Annette Chovanic of Winterset and Janice Creswell (husband Jim) of Earlham; one brother, Claude Thomas of Portland Ore; one sister, Cecil Whitaker of Iola, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
