Anna Elinor Travis, 88, a former Truro resident, died of congestive heart failure June 29, 2000 at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 3 at the Peru United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd and Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating.

Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery (Walnut Township) near Peru.

Anna Travis was born Dec. 10, 1911 in Ringgold County to James Solomon and Mabel Goldie (Baker) Butt. She graduated from Shannon City High School in 1928.

She married Dale G. Travis on Nov. 24, 1934 in Creston.

She had been employed at Look magazine in Des Moines and later was manager of the Peru branch of Union State Bank until her retirement in 1976. Anna and her husband resided on a farm in the Peru community until moving to Truro in 1977.

She was a 50-year member of the Model Chapter 315 (Order of the Easter Star) in St. Charles and a member of the Peru United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, two brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Patterson of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Lena Howard of Green Valley, Ariz.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Home in Truro.

ANNA TRAVIS - Truro

Anna Elinor Travis, 88, of Truro died of a heart ailment Thursday at Integrated Health Services in Winterset. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Peru, of which she was a member.

Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County.

Mrs. Travis was born in Knowlton and had lived in Peru until moving to Truro in 1977. She was a homemaker, a retired manager with the Peru branch of Union State Bank and had worked for Look magazine in Des Moines. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Patterson of Kansas City, Mo; a sister, Lena Howard of Green Valley, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Middle River Hospice or her church.

She graduated from Sharron City High School with the class of 1928. She married Dale G. Travis on Nov. 24, 1934, at Creston and they became the parents of two daughters, Patricia and Mary Ann.

Mrs. Travis became employed at Look magazine in Des Moines in 1955. Later she was manager of the Peru branch of the Union State Bank until she retired in 1976.

Mrs. Travis and her husband lived on a farm in the Peru community before they moved to Truro in 1977.

She loved to watch Chicago Cubs baseball when she was able to.

Mrs. Travis was a 50-year member of the Model Chapter No. 315 Order of the Eastern Star at St. Charles as well as a member of the United Methodist Church at Peru.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Patricia Irene Kirk in 1957; her husband, Dale in 1992; two brothers, Arthur and Floyd and five sisters, Clara and Edna and three in infancy.

Mrs. Travis is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Patterson of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Steven Kirk of Winterset; three granddaughters, Shelly Grandfield and her husband, Richard Grandfield, of Lorimor, Melanie Bohle and her husband, Keith Bohle, of Kingsley and Stacey Lowe and her husband, Clayton Lowe, of Winterset; five great-grandchildren; as sister Lena Howard of Green Valley, Ariz.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Travis were July 3 at the Peru United Methodist Church, the Reverends Dennis Shepherd and Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Doris Johnson, organist, accompanied Emil Rinderspacher who sang Take My Hand, Precious Lord and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.

Casket bearers were Steven Kirk, Richard Grandfield, Keith Bohle, Clayton Lowe, Walter Moore Jr. and Joe Moore. Interment was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County. Arrangements were by Kale Funeral Homes Osceola and Truro.

Memorials may be made to Middle River Hospice or the Peru United Methodist Church.
