Page 1Mrs. Henry Devault Dies
Mrs. Henry Devault died at the home of her son, C. H. Devault of Winterset last Wednesday. She lacked but a few days of being 90 years old and was the last of the early settlers of the Webster community. Her health had remained unusually good up until the last year.
Mrs. Devault was the former Mary Frances Nicholson, and was born December 7, 1846, in Johnson county, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Maria Nicholson. She was reared in Johnson county, and there on September 10, 1868, was married to Henry F. Devault. Following their marriage they came to Madison county in a covered wagon and settled west of Winterset.
They were the parents of four children, one of them, Jessie Lewis dying in infancy, and another Gilbert Allen Devault, dying in 1919. Her husband died in 1918, and she then moved to Winterset but for the past 10 years, because of her advanced age, she had made her home with her children.
As a young woman she had become a member of the United Brethren church and after coming to Madison county joined the Methodist church at Webster. She later transferred her membership to the Methodist church in Winterset.
She is survived by her son, C. H. Devault; her daughter, Effie M. Drake; two sisters; a brother; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Methodist church here, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Roberts cemetery, northwest of Webster.
