10 Oct. 2001Bernice Irene Williams, 95, of Creston died of cardiac arrest Oct. 7, 2001 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday Oct 10) at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Creston with the Rev. George Mullins officiating. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Creston.
Bernice Williams was born Nov. 1, 1905 to John Guy and Nelda Lena (Coomins) Harrison of Macksburg. She was a 1923 graduate of Macksburg High School. She married Clifford C. Williams on Aug. 8, 1925 in Adel. In her early years, Bernice taught school. Beginning in 1961 she owned and cooked at the Williams Cafe in Creston until 1978. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Creston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons-in-law, four sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by nine daughters, Shirley Patterson (husband Jack) and Mary Zellweger (husband Robert) both of Polk City, Fla., Phyllis Wakefield (husband Quinton) of Guthrie Center, Beverley Thompson and Patricia Ashley, both of Creston, Linda Janicsek (husband Larry) of Pewaukee, Wis., Dianne Ho-Gland of Texas City, Texas, Connie Souders (husband Doug)of Orovillle, Calif. and Kathy Shuman (husband David) of Paradise, Calif.; three sons, Larry, Darrell and Dennis, all of Creston; 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangement were haddled by Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
