Maurice Edward Thrailkill, 90, of Winterset died May 4, 2002 of multiple organ system failure at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 8) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery, Grand River township, Madison County.

Maurice Thrailkill was born June 27, 1911 to John Chester Henan and Caroline Amanda (Holderbaum) of Earlham. He was a graduate of Dexter High School. He married Erma Louise Imboden on June 3, 1936 at the Penn Center United Methodist near Earlham. Maurice, a retired farmer and businessman, had spent his lifetime in Madison County, having resided in Earlham, Macksburg, and Winterset. His memberships have included the Salvation Army Board for Macksburg, I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodge, Macksburg United Methodist Church (where he had been a Sunday School superintendent, church board member and finance chairman) and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. He also had served as mayor and city councilman of Macksburg for many terms.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a stillborn son, eight brothers and seven sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Ramon Thrailkill (wife Carolyn) of Rogers, Ark., and George Thrailkill of Winterset; two daughters, Nila Geisel (husband Eddie) of Arlington, Texas, and Lila Huffman (husband Mike) of Hartville, Mo; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
