April 4,1911 - Nov. 13, 2003Anna Maudie Applegate, 92, of rural Dexter, died of cancer Thursday Nov. 13, 2003, at the Community Care Center in Stuart.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 17, at Bear Creek Friends Church in rural Earlham. Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Earlham.
Anna Maudie Applegate was born April 4, 1911, in southwest Dallas County, the daughter of Bert and Effie Barnett. She grew up in the rural Bear Creek neighborhood. She attended grade school at the Bear Creek School and high school in Earlham, where she graduated in 1930. She attended a year of junior college in Earlham, taught country school near St. Charles and then worked as a housekeeper in Des Moines for a short time. In 1940 she married Russell Applegate, also of the Bear Creek community. They lived and farmed in the community all their life.
She was a life-long member of the Bear Creek Church.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Willard and Clyde Barnett, and her husband.
She is survived by her son, Don Applegate of Earlham; her daughter, Jean Gilbert of Earlham; and three grandchildren.
