Omer Kenneth Payne, 101, a resident of the Adair Care Center, died Feb. 15, 2005, at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Steve Allison officiating. Burial was at Penn Center Cemetery in rural Earlham.

Omer Payne was born Nov. 7, 1903, in Maryville, Mo., to Edward and Mary (Marston) Payne. He moved to the Dexter/Earlham area at the age of 7 and was a graduate of Dexter High School. On June 6, 1925, he married Olive Wernli in Adel. Omer farmed for for many years. He also served on the Madison County Fair Board and was a Madison County supervisor. He and his wife retired to Lake Panorama, where he worked for the Guthrie County Sanitation Department as a soil tester. He also was involved with restoring and repairing furniture.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Thomas and Kenneth; one daughter, Joan, one grandson, Benjamin Payne; and two granddaughters, Kara Payne and Patricia Hermon.

He is survived by two daughters, Betty Warren of Carlisle and Virginia Grove of Adair; one son Truman Payne of Earlham; a sister, Dorothy Winn of Sun City, Ariz. and 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
