Howard Lee Smith, 84, Earlham, died of cancer May 7 1997 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. May 10 at the Pitzer Presbyterian Church in Madison County. The Revs. Shirley Lockard and Steven R. Smith will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg. There is open visitation noon to 8 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Collins Funeral Home, Winterset.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Macksburg to Walter Lee and Florence Mae (Pinckney) Smith. He was a 1931 graduate of Macksburg High School. On May 18, 1935, he married Glenna Arlene Denney at Albany, Mo. He was a lifetime Madison County resident and a retired farmer and stockman. He was a 4-H club leader and a member of the Pitzer Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Smith of Earlham; sons, Thomas L. (wife Trudy) Smith of Sikeston, Mo., and Morris D. (wife Dixie) Smith of Earlham; daughter, Glenna Jean Finney of Earlham; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Harlow B. Finney.
