Dale Mills -

C. Dale Mills, 87, of Earlham died Jan 30, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Thursday Feb. 3, at the Earlham United Methodist Church with Pastor Charlie Thompson officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery with military rites performed by Earlham American Legion Post #158.

Dale Mills was born Feb. 6, 1917 in Macon, Ill., to George Calvin and Winifred Elenora (Newsham) Mills and at the age of 3 months moved to Earlham. He attended school in Winterset for one year, graduating from Earlham High School in 1935. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, serving as an aviator machinist mate. On Oct. 16, 1942, he married Irene Cole. Dale was a lifelong farmer. He also served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 158, both of Earlham.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Barr of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Rueber of Winterset and Mary Hopkins of St. Paul, Minn.; one son, John Mills of Earlham; and six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
