FRANCIS BASS Died on Christmas Day

Francis D. Bass, well known young farmer and stock raiser of near Winterset, died at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines Chrismas day.

The young man was 35 years of age. He had been in failing health for several months, and had been critically ill since undergoing a major operation several weeks ago.

Mr. Bass was a life-long resident of this community. He was born here May 24, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Bass. He was married to Marjorie Clopton of Winterset in September, 1937. They are the parents of five small children, the eldest of whom is 6 years old.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by the five children, Thomas, Judith Ann, Constance Sue, Robert and Richard; his parents; and four brothers, George, Charles, William and Eugene Bass, all of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. this Thursday from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. J. Judge. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

Thirty-five Year Old Farmer Died In Des Moines Early Christmas Evening

The family, relatives and friends were saddened here Christmas Day by the death of Francis D. Bass, 35 year old farmer and member of one of the county’s prominent families. He died early Monday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines following a short illness.

He was well known here as in many parts of Iowa where he had often accompanied his brother, George V. Bass, to show fine draft horses. He was born and raised in the county and was living on the Bass farm which was his birthplace. His education was received at the rural school and he graduated from the Winterset high school.

Francis DeWitt Bass was born may 24, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt S. Bass. He was married on September 14, 1937 to Marjorie Clopton and they are the parents of five small children, Thomas, six; Judith Ann, 4; Constance, 3; Robert DeWitt, 2; Richard 1.

Besides his wife and children and his parents he is survived by four brothers: George, Charles, William and Eugene.

Services are being held today (Thursday) at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church conducted by Father J. Judge. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
