June Arlene Friend, 86, of Lighthouse Point, Fla. died of a massive stroke Dec. 8, 2004, at North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday Dec. 15) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

June Friend was born June 12, 1918, in Winterset to Clark and Mabel (Johnson) Simmons. On March 30, 1940 in Madison County she was united in marriage to Bryon Lincoln Friend. She grew up in Winterset and spent most of her married life in Chicago before moving back to Winterset in 1984. In October of 2003, she moved to Florida. June had taught school early in her life and then was a homemaker. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Vernon and Charles Simmons; and a sister, Helen Fulton.

She is survived by one son, David Friend of Lighthouse Point, kFla.; one daughter Sandra June Morgan of Seligman, Ariz.; a sister, Rose Moorhead of Winterset and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
