CLARE "SHORTY" HARDEN

Clare "Shorty" Harden, 85, of Winterset, died May 16, 1991 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, Winterset.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Macksburg Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy Raines will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg. There is open visitation after noon today with a family night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Keating-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home in Creston.

Mr. Harden was born Sept. 30, 1905 in Grand River township, Adair County to Ernest and Maggie (Lauer) Harden. His family moved to a farm on the Adair County line where he lived until February 1968. He married Evelyn Adams on Feb. 2, 1968 at the Methodist Church in Greenfield. They made their home in Macksburg until May 1987 when ill health forced him to move to the Winterset Care Center North.

He was a member of the Macksburg Methodist Church, Hawthorne Rebekah Lodge and Grand River IOOF of Macksburg. He was a member of the Macksburg City Council for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Harden of Winterset; five sons, Bill (wife Shirley) of Oakland, Phil of Winterset, Jim (wife, Patti) and Michael of Bettendorf, and Jack (wife Patti) Harden of Rockford, Ill., three daughters, Beth Farlow of Winterset, Nancy (husband Lee) Ortman of Cumberland and Cindy (husband John) Jensen of Bettendorf; a sister, Mrs. Edith Bamsay of Creston; 17 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Durl and Nile; and a sister, Blanche Cook.
