MRS. MARY RYAN Passed Thursday

Mrs. Mary Ryan, well known resident of Crawford township, died at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines early last Thursday morning, June 12, 1947, after a month's illness. Mrs. Ryan, who was 71 years of age had always resided in Lee and Crawford townships. She had been in poor health for the past year, and entered the hospital five weeks ago, for observation and treatment.

Mrs. Ryan, the former Mary Maher, was a daughter of James and Mary Maher, early settlers of Lee township. She was born April 9, 1876, and was raised in that community. She was married to John J. Ryan, Sept. 22, 1897, and they located on a farm in the north edge of Crawford township; this place had since been her home. Her husband died in August 1907, two months before their sixth child was born. She continued to operate the farm until her sons were old enough to assist her.

The deceased is survived by her six children; Mrs. Nona Cain of Perry, Mrs. Marie Dullard of Bondurant, Thomas Ryan of St. Louis, Mo., and John, James and William Ryan of Crawford township. She also leaves three sisters, and two brothers; Mrs. Ella Meisner, Mrs. Bridget Ryan, Miss Catherine Maher, and William Maher of Des Moines, and John Maher of Cumming. One brother and four sisters have preceded her in death. Twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive Mrs. Ryan.

Requiem high mass was conducted for Mrs. Ryan, at St. Patrick's church in Lee township, Monday morning, June 16 at 10 o'clock in the morning, by the Rev. John J. Reynolds, and burial was made in the church cemetery nearby.
