THOMAS J. HUDSON Dies

Thomas J. Hudson, a pioneer resident of Madison County, died early Monday morning, November 11, 1929, at the home of his son, Fred Hudson. Mr. Hudson was 83 years of age, and had been in poor health during the past year.

During recent years he had been spending the winters in Denver, with his daughter, Mrs. Helen Flintham. He was critically ill in Colorado last winter, but became better and came to Winterset in the spring. He had been in Winterset a number of times and was here, with his son, only last Friday. About 3 o'clock Monday morning, he was stricken, and death came while he was asleep.

The deceased was born in Lawrence county, Indiana June 28, 1846. He came to this county in 1856 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hudson. He was married to Miss Mary Tidrick, in September 1874, and they were parents of two children, Fred and Helen. Mr. Hudson was engaged in the drug business for many years, being in partnership with his father-in-law, Dr. L. M. Tidrick, in the firm of Tidrick & Hudson. Mr. Hudson also served as postmaster of Winterset during two terms, and raised thoroughbred horses for many years.

He was the proprietor of the first moving picture show in Winterset, and had a wide acquaintance over the state, because of his service as marshal at the Iowa state fair for many years.

Mr. Hudson is survived by his two children and by a brother and sister, Lute Hudson and Mrs. S. J. Duff, of Winterset. He also leaves a niece and four grandsons. Mrs. Hudson died in 1891, and he had made his home with his son during the past twenty years.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian Church, conducted the funeral services at Tidrick's funeral home Wednesday, November 13th, at 2 o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
