MORTUARY - Merle W. Hunter

Merle William Hunter, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hunter, was born April 24, 1881, near Winterset, and passed on Friday, September 19, 1930, at the age of 49 years, 4 months and 26 days.

At the age of fifteen he united with the United Presbyterian church at Winterset, by profession of faith. This membership was transferred to the United Presbyterian church at Indianola during a residence there, and later to the Central Presbyterian church at Nevada.

On February 11, 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Grace G. Smith, in Des Moines. To this union were born three children, John, who resides in Des Moines, and two daughters, Maxine and Ruth, at home in Nevada.

He suffered a severe nervous breakdown several months ago, from which he never recovered. This brought on his untimely death at the Nevada sanitarium. He was a dutiful son, a kind husband, a loving father and a loyal friend. Besides his wife and children, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Hunter, of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Esther Pilmer, of Des Moines, and three grandchildren, Fred, Frank and Betty Ruth Hunter, of Des Moines.

Death of Merle Hunter

Funeral Services for Merle William Hunter were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at the United Presbyterian church in Winterset. The services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Porter, of this congregation, and Rev. W. O. Venthin, of the Central Presbyterian church of Nevada. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Hunter was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hunter, of Winterset. He was born near Winterset on April 24, 1881, and was forty-nine years of age at the time of his death. He had suffered a severe nervous breakdown several months ago and this caused him to take his life.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian church here and later transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian church at Indianola while he was residing there, and later to the Central Presbyterian church at Nevada.

He was married to Miss Grace G. Smith of Des Moines, on February 11, 1902. He is survived by his wife and three children, John of Des Moines, and Maxine and Ruth at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Hunter; a sister, Mrs. Esther Pilmer, of Des Moines, and three grandchildren, Fred, Frank and Betty Ruth Hunter, of Des Moines.
