Death called on one of the oldest residents in Madison county on August 1, when Mrs. N. M. Beardsley died at the home of her son Edd, near Peru, at the age of 93.
As Martha Jane White, she was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. White, at Warsaw, Indiana, on January 29, 1841. When a girl she came to Iowa with her parents, and on October 3, 1869 was married to N. M. Beardsley at Boone. They settled on a farm in Madison county in 1871, living there until 1913. At that time she moved to Winterset to make her home with her son Edd. They later moved to a farm near Peru.
Mrs. Beardsley's husband died in 1905. They were the parents of six children, three of whom survive the mother. The surviving relatives are her two sons Edd and Thee Beardsley, a daughter, Mrs. Asa Reed, and a step-son L. W. Beardsley.
