A. E. EMERSON Funeral Held

Winterset Madisonian
June 19, 1968

Funeral services for Arnie E. Emerson, former mayor of Winterset, were held Friday afternoon, June 14, 1968, from the First United Methodist Church of Winterset.

Mr. Emerson died June 11 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was 78 years of age.

A son of James and Eliza Ann Miller Emerson, he was born at Peru on Dec. 11, 1889. He was married to Pearl Silliman on June 24, 1908 at Winterset.

Mr. Emerson was a life-long resident of Madison County. He farmed near Peru for a number of years, moving to Winterset in 1939, where he engaged in the insurance and real estate business. He was mayor of Winterset for three terms, from 1954 to 1960.

He was a member of the Winterset Methodist church, the Methodist Men's group, and Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are his wife; three children, Mrs. Ruby Deremiah of Des Moines, Mrs. Hazel Baker of Lorimor, and Martin Emerson of Creston; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Loyal Emerson of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Birdie Shearer of Peru.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, and two sons, Guy and Glenn.

Officiating at the service last Friday was the Rev. Everett Burham. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.
