Keith Wambold, Winterset

Keith Wambold, 74, of Winterset departed this life Monday afternoon, June 13, 2005, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Ochiltree's with Pastors Don Frank and Terry Kerr officiating. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Keith Melvin Wambold was born Jan. 26, 1931, to Mildred and Dale Wambold of Dexter. Keith went to country school, then started to Dexter High School before moving with his family to a farm near Orient. He graduated from Zion High School with the class of 1948. While Keith was still in high school, his father, Dale, passed away and Keith assumed a supportive and helpful role to his family. Encouragement, integrity, kindness and helpfulness were traits he displayed throughout his life. This earned him many friends.

On June 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Harden of Union County. For the next 52 years, they made their home on a farm in Webster Township, Madison County. They became the parents of four children: Dale, Denise, Debra and Douglas.

Keith worked for 38 years for Schildberg Construction of Greenfield, where he was a trusted, valued and respected employee. Besides his family and friends, Keith greatly enjoyed his farm and took much pride in it. When failing health kept him from maintaining the farm, he and Gwen retired to their home in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Gwen; son Dale and wife, Sharon; daughter Denise Jordan and husband, Dennis; daughter Deb Hodgson and husband, Tony; and son Doug and wife, Jennifer. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Boyd; his four grandchildren, David and Sarah Wambold, Andrea and Carley Hodgson; and his sister, Dawn Hull. Many friends and relatives also survive him, and he will be missed by all.
