Page 3Jennie M. Duncan was born Sept. 6, 1850, in Hardin county, Indiana. When she was a child of two years, she moved with her father and mother to Madison county, Iowa.
April 15, 1888 she was united in marriage with George W. Gardner. Three children were born, one of whom died in infancy and one at 14 years of age. Her daughter, Mrs. Netta Neighbor, Milo Neighbor, their children, Jack and Charles; her husband, George W. Gardner; her sister, Mrs. H. H. Schieb of Akron, Ohio; a brother, C. F. Duncan of Grimes, and a host of relatives and friends mourn the loss they have experienced in Mrs. Garnder's being taken away.
For the past 26 years, Mrs. Gardner made her home in Winterset. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and was steadfast in the faith until the end. During a lifetime of devotion, she took care of her beloved sister, Emma Duncan, who passed away July 23, 1922. She lived a consistent, earnest Christian life and was dearly loved in her home and in a large circle of neighbors and friends, among whom the bonds of affection grew stronger with the passing of the happy years.
Her spirit departed Friday evening, Jan. 4, 1924. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, led by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley, with interment in the Rock City cemetery.
