Ollie C. Reed, West Des Moines

Ollie C. Reed, 97, died of a heart ailment Aug. 13, 1998, at Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 17, at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. Richard Harbart officiating. Burial was at Young Cemetery.

Ollie Reed was born Aug. 7, 1901, in Adelphi to Tally and Annie Clarke. She married Cliff Halterman in 1918 in Indianola. Following Cliff's death in 1959, she then married J. F. Reed. Ollie had been a dietary aide at Iowa Methodist Medical Center for 12 years and had lived in Des Moines since 1960. She had lived in the Truro area prior to moving to Des Moines. She also was a member of the Truro Garden Club and the Thursday Girls. She attended the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, six brothers and one sister.

She is survived by one daughter, Delores Reed (husband Charles) of Des Moines; one granddaughter, Beverlee Jo Reed of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives.

Ollie C. Reed, 97, of Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines died there Thursday of a heart ailment. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Burial will be at Young Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed was born in Delphi and had lived in Truro before moving to the Des Moines area in 1960. She was a dietary aide at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and a member of Truro Garden Club and Thursday Girls. She also attended Truro Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Delores of Des Moines; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today and all day Monday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 10 a.m. Monday until service time.

OLLIE C. REED

Ollie C. Reed, daughter of Tally and Annie Clarke, was born Aug. 7, 1901, in Adelphi and died Aug. 13, 1998, at fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines. She was 97.

She married Cliff Halterman in 1918, at Indianola and the couple became the parents a daughter, Delores. Following Mr. Halterman’s death in 1959 she married J. F. Reed.

Mrs. Reed was a dietary aide at Iowa Methodist Medical Center for 12 years. She lived in Truro before moving to Des Moines in 1960.

She was a member of the Truro Garden Club, the Thursday Girls and attended the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ.

In addition to Mr. Halterman’s death in 1959 she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Jim, David, Ralph, Palmer, Walter and Loras Clarke and a sister, Roxie Woolery.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her daughter, Delores Reed and her husband, Charles Reed, of Des Moines; a granddaughter, Beverlee Jo Reed of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Paul Nicklaus Feilen of Chattanooga, Tenn. and John Christopher Feilen of Wheeler Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii; a great-great-grandchild, Brianna Elaine Feilen of Chattanooga; other relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Reed were Aug. 17 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, the Rev. Richard Harbart officiating.

Casket bearers were J. Fred Reed Jr., Dale Lytton, Harry Reed, Bill Green and Lee Parker. Interment was in Young Cemetery in Madison County.
