Winterset Madisonian - April 1926
Rufus Clark, son of Ruth and Caleb Clark, was born in Buchanan county, Missouri, February 17th, 1845, and departed this life at Winterset, April 16th, 1926, aged 81 years 1 month and 16 days. He was united in marriage to Susan Templeman, September 3rd, 1871, and to this union were born eight children, two having died in infancy and Clarence six years ago. Those remaining to mourn his loss are Rose McDonald of Rock Island, Frank, Alvin, Lulu Rippey and Bessie McCauley, of Winterset. He had twelve brothers and sisters, all of whom have passed away with the exception of a brother, Joel Clark, and three sisters, Charlotte Gorden, Elizabeth Smith and Martha Ballard, all of Winterset. Fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also mourn his loss. His wife died March 11, 1913, and he was united in marriage to Mrs. Louisa Taylor, August 23rd, 1916, who still survives him.
He was a man of good Christian faith and believed in studying his Bible daily. He was stricken with paralysis two years ago and has been an invalid ever since. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed in his home. His parents brought him to this county in 1846, they being the first white settler in this county. When he grew to manhood he was a stone mason with his father for several years and afterward he was occupied in farming. Later he returned to his old trade which he followed the rest of his life.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
