Mortuary - Mrs. Edgar Harrell

Julia Etta Hircock oldest daughter of William and Elizabeth Hircock, was born October 2, 1865, in Madison county, and passed away at her home in Scott township, July 7, 1929, at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 5 days.

She moved with her parents to Scott township, Madison county, when a small girl, and spent her entire life in the Zion community, attending Lincoln school.

She was married to Edgar Harrell, October 25, 1885, and with the exception of a year or two they have spent their entire life on the home farm. Eleven children came to bless this home, all growing to manhood and womanhood except one daughter, Nellie, who died in infancy.

Mrs. Harrell united with the Zion Union church when a young girl, and when the same church was re-organized as a Federated church, she was one of the signers of the constitution and a charter member. She enjoyed attending church services and Sunday school until her health began to fail. She was a great lover of her home, and was happiest when she could have her children and grandchildren about her. Her home was the scene of many happy gatherings and she entered into all the activities of the community with enthusiastic interest. No one asking her for aid was ever turned away.

Those left to mourn her departure are her husband, nine children: Mrs. Glen Newton, O. E. Harrell, E. B. Harrell, Wl L. Harrell, C. G. Harrell and Mrs. Loren Jones, all of Winterset; Mrs. J. H. McDonald, of Devil's Lake, North Dakota; E. G. Harrell, of Lake Side, Nebraska, and Mary, still living at home; eighteen grandchildren; one brother, J. O. Hircock; one sister, Mrs. J. W. Beem, both of Winterset; one half-sister, Mrs. J. O. Kennedy, and three half brothers, Will Hircock and Fred Hircock, all of Merna, Nebraska, and Charles Hircock, of Glendale, Arizona. One daughter, Mrs. Ada Wilson, passed away eleven years ago.

Mrs. Harrell, or Etta, as she was lovingly and familiarly called, will be greatly missed in her community, and the memory of her will be held in loving remembrance by her family, relatives and friends.

The funeral was conducted at the home, Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, by Rev. Shannon, of Des Moines, and burial was made in the Rock City cemetery.
