John H. Taylor, born March 17, 1862, was the first child to gladden the home of Henry and Hannah Taylor of near Earlham, Iowa. He was a child of pioneer days when the children shared so directly in the hardships and opportunities of the home life. In such surroundings he grew to manhood.

Of his childhood experiences, one of the most vivid was seeing the first railroad laid through Earlham, and being present at the time the first train passed.

He was an industrous man and realized many of his ambitions in life. After the death of his parents he shared the home of his brother, William. Eighteen years ago he went to Utah to live with his nephew, Ray Knox. Here he enjoyed the things he loved most--hunting, fishing and living close to nature--as well as sharing in the activities of the farm until declining health caused a quieter life.

Death came to Mr. Taylor on October 18, 1943, at the age of 81 years, seven months and one day at Duchesne, Utah. Of a family of nine brothers and sisters he leaves one brother, William of Earlham, and a sister, Cozy Ramsey of Pasadena, California, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Welch funeral home conducted by Rev. S.R. Overholser. The pall bearers were, Henry Taylor, Charles Taylor, Earl Putney, Frank Beaman, Earl Clague and Russel Ralston. Burial in the Earlham cemetery.
