August 11, 1932, Page 1Senator John N. Langfitt, of Greenfield, died at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Friday, August 5th at 11 a.m. Mr. Langfitt was Senator of the Adair-Madison district for the past 2 terms, and was not a candidate for re-election this year.
The deceased was 66 years of age. He had been in poor health for several years and heart disease caused his death. He resided for many years on a farm at the north edge of Greenfield and was known in both Adair and Madison Counties.
His birth took place May 9,1860 in Scott County, Iowa, his father's people being of Scotch-Irish descent while his mother's people were of English descent. His early education was received in the rural schools. He also attended Wilton Academy and Davenport Business College. He came to Adair County when he was 21 years of age and 4 years later he was married to Clara Martin of Greenfield. They were the parents of 4 children, who survive the father, Harry M. of Marshalltown, Bernice of Des Moines and Clara Mildred and John N. Jr. of Greenfield. Mrs. Langfitt died July 14, 1924.
Mr. Langfitt was a Blue Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason. He was Representative from Adair County in the 37th and 38th General Assembilies and was elected Senator in 1924 and 1928.
Funeral services were held at the Greenfield Presbyterian Church, Sunday afternoon, August 7th at 2:30 p.m. and burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery.
