Eight years ago, he and Mrs. Small moved to Winterset, and she died two weeks after moving here. A brother, John F. Kennedy, of California, died about the same time. Another sister, Mrs. Hannah Davis, and a brother, James, have also preceded him in death. Mr. Kennedy had never married and was the last of his family.
A cousin, Mrs. Mary Sterrett, has been caring for him for several years. Mr. Kennedy joined the United Presbyterian church at Patterson, when he was a young man, and changed to the Winterset church when he moved here.
Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, conducted the funeral services, held at the church, Sunday afternoon, at 3:30 o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Joseph C. Kennedy was born at Hebron, Indiana, September 26, 1855. After a life of 75 years he died at Winterset, March 28, 1930.
He was the son of James and Ellen Ann Ferguson Kennedy. He had two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Matilda Small and Mrs. Hannah Davis, James Kennedy, who died at 16 years of age, and John F. Kennedy, of California. He was the last of his immediate family. He was most tenderly and unselfishly attended in his last years by a cousin, Mrs. Mary Sterrett, who with her sister, Mrs. Allison Fuller, Thomas Bole, Mrs. Lester Fuson, Mrs. John Stalcup, Mrs. Elizabeth Braden and Mrs. Earl Larson are the nearest relatives.
Mr. Kennedy’s parents were Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, emigrants in Indiana, where he was born, and with the emigrant tide’s westward flow came on to Madison county, Iowa, in 1873. They settled one mile north and two miles east of Patterson. The next year they moved to a farm near the W. W. Gentry farm, where they lived for 27 years. They worshipped at the now disbanded United Presbyterian church at Patterson, and there, in youth, he professed faith in his Saviour. Later he transferred his membership to Winterset, and at the time of his death was one of the oldest and best loved members.
