Death of Noah Benson

Noah Benson, who had lived in Madison county for over 50 years, died Thursday morning, September 19th, at nine o'clock, after an illness of several months with heart trouble. Mr. Benson was 70 years of age, being born near Washington, in Washington county, Iowa, October 17, 1859. He was a son of William J. and Jennie Parrish Benson, and came with them to Madison county in 1871. They located on a farm in Scott township, six miles south of Winterset.

On December 25, 1883, he was married to Laura Luella Lorimor, who with their two daughters, Mrs. Mabelle Danforth of Winterset, and Mrs. Lorraine Griffiths of Syracuse, New York, survive him. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. A. A. Elliott of Grand Island, Nebraska, and five brothers: Henry W. and James A. of Hastings, Nebraska; Albert P. Benson of Winterset; Howard of Giltner, Nebraska and Frank E. of Aurora, Nebraska.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, conducted the funeral services, Saturday morning, September 21, at nine o'clock, at Ramsey-Richards funeral home; and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Benson was well known in Winterset and Madison county. He farmed for a number of years and for some time was engaged in the real estate business. Just this spring, he and Mrs. Benson sold their home, at the end of West Jefferson street, and moved to their farm, three miles east of Winterset, on Primary No. 2. Shortly after they moved he became ill, however, with heart trouble and complications, and he gradually became worse. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
