Charles "Chick" Carey, Winterset

Funeral services for Charles "Chick" Carey, 52, were held Fri., Feb. 8 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera officiating. He died of cancer February 4 at Veterans Medical Center, Des Moines.

Carey was born April 19, 1933 in Fort Madison to Dean L. and Olive Irene (Tucker) Carey. He was a graduate of Winterset High School and lived in Madison County most of his life. He married Jacquelynn Stephenson December 15, 1989 in Osceola. He was manager of Best Wash car wash, a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 8142 in Winterset, and was a member of the Worthington Church.

He was preceded in death by his father; his second wife, Kay Greer; and one grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Jacquelynn; two sons, James and Russell both of Earlham; two daughters, Maria Luhrs of Fontanelle and Denise Call of St. Mary's, Ga.; his mother, Olive Carey; four step-sons; five step-daughters; three grandchildren; 28 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Burial was at Peru Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.

The Madisonian incorrectly stated "Chick" Carey's age in last week's obituary. He was 57, not 52, at the time of his death.
