Orrella Hess Dies - Murray

Orrella Jeals Hess, 94, of Murray, passed away Sunday, November 20, 1994, at the Afton Care Center.

She was born March 21, 1900, in Madison County, the daughter of George and Mary Jane (Hockenberry) Cram. She attended country schools in Madison County. On June 2, 1917, she married Guy Arnold Hess at Winterset.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Elm Grove Church in Madison County.

Mrs. Hess is survived by five sons, Guy A. (wife Louella) of Leon, Boyd (wife Phyllis) of Twin Parks, Calif., George E. (wife Edith) of Council Bluffs, Mack (wife Sharon) of Ogilvie, Minn., and Leonard Dale "Pete" (wife Nancy) Hess of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Freda Schaff of Murray, Georgia (husband Charles) Moore of Truro, and Lois Warren of Council Bluffs; 31 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren, 29 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Eagan of Loveland, Colo; and a sister-in-law, Cleta Oglesbee of Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 16, 1989; her parents; a son, Billy Wayne; a daughter, Doris Ann; two brothers, Ambrose and Mack Cram; a sister, Deedie Oakland; three granddaughters and two grandsons.

Services were held Wednesday morning at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Walt Williams of Osceola officiating. Burial was at the King Cemetery at Peru.

Coordinator note: In 2023, a great-granddaughter supplied the name of another living daughter at the time of this death - Mary (husband Leonard) Siefkas of Murray, who wrote this obituary.
