John Haines, Winterset

John Haines, 59, of Winterset died Sept. 17, 1994 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Sept. 19, 1994 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. The Rev. Leonard Leslie and the Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiated with burial at the Peru Cemetery.

He was born in Winterset on May 1, 1935, to John Eldon and Emily (Clampitt) Haines. He married Virginia E. Stuart in Winterset on May 26, 1985. He was a retired truck driver for the Madison County Secondary Roads Department. He was a lifelong Winterset resident and a member of the First Christian Church and Disciples of Christ. He served on various church committees and was a Deacon for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sons; a step-son; and a grandson.

Surviving relatives include his wife; his mother; a daughter, Sarah Hoff and husband Sam of Winterset; three step-daughters, Dawn Robbins of Des Moines, Marie Deaton and husband Brad of Des Moines, and Beverly Jenks and husband Jeff of Cumming; two brothers, Donald and wife Vernita of Winterset and Jerry of Ames; one sister, Shirley Odem of Guantonimo Bay, Cuba; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church in Winterset.
