Goldie Viola Lightner, 98, died Jan. 16, 2006, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Jan. 18) from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Goldie Lightner was born Nov. 19, 1907, in Madison County to David and Emma (Haines) Algoe. On Jan. 29, 1927, she married Hugh Lightner in Adel. A lifetime resident of Madison County, Goldie had been a rural schoolteacher for the Winterset School District. Later in her life, she was a cook for the school district.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Donald Lightner; two brothers, Raymond Algoe and John Algoe; and two sisters, Pearl Tyer and Ruby Gray.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Lightner of Creston; a sister Elsie Satterlee of Bentonville, Ark.; and three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Zion Church at the Madison Couty Historical Complex or Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset.
