Jan. 18, 2006, page 5aGeraldine Polak, 90, of Winterset and a former longtime Marshalltown resident, died Jan. 6, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday. Jan. 10, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Jaeger officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery.
Geraldine Polak was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Marshalltown to Leo and Anna (Watco) Banzhaf. She was a 1933 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Marshalltown. On Oct. 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Joseph Polak in Marshalltown. They made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives and where Geraldine also was employed at Niehouse Cleaners foe 13 years. She was a member of St. Henry’s Parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Alter and Rosary Society and the Golden Classics.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Earl Banzhaf and Joseph Eugene Banzhaf; a sister, Viola Stepan; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Winovich.
She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Early of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Sharon McCauley of Winterset; one son, Joseph Polak of Macon, Mo.; and nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Mitchell
