Death of Mrs. M. J. McLees

Mrs. Martha J. Dill McLees died in Winterset Saturday after months of ill health. She was removed recently from the home of Mrs. Michael Gamble to the Winterset hospital.

Mrs. McLees came to Winterset forty-five years ago, was married two years later and has been a resident of Lincoln township since that date. Mr. McLees died over seven years ago. One son, Ralph, remains to mourn his mother's death.

Rev. W. J. Stewart conducted funeral services Monday afternoon in the United Presbyterian church, and the body was buried in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Martha J. McLees

Mrs. Martha J. Dill-McLees was born in Washington, Iowa, October 28, 1850 and died in Winterset, November 27, 1920. In 1875 she came to Winterset and on September 5, 1877 was married to John McLees, whose death occurred January 26, 1913. As a bride Mrs. McLees came to the farm in Lincoln township which for 43 years has been her home.

One son, Ralph McLees, with his family and two brothers, Bruce Dill of Washington, who was with his sister in her last illness, and Merrill Dill of Enterprise, Oregon, with a host of friends will miss her.

In early life she united with the church at Washington and has for 43 years been a member of the Winterset United Presbyterian church.

Brief funeral services were held at the home and the church Monday afternoon, conducted by her pastor Rev. Walter J. Stewart.
