Winterset Madisonian - January 1895

Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, widow of Jonathan Myers, died at her home in this city, Monday forenoon, January 7, 1895, aged 86 years and two days. The Myers family were among the earliest settlers in Madison county. They settled about three miles north of Winterset, at the well known "Myers Grove." Their home was renowned for its large-hearted hospitality, and the hearty cheer of the pioneer here found a rich expression. Many are the deeds of kindness which bless her momory--and the writer hereof has recollection of some of them--and many are the praises of the noble character of her long and useful life.

Another of the pioneers of our community has fallen. But few are left, but all those who are left will treasure the memory of "Aunt Betsey," as she was familiarly and affectionately called.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, of which denomination deceased had for many years been a member.

(Burial was in Winterset Cemetery)
