John E. Harper

Barney, Iowa - John E. Harper, 90, of Barney died of a respiratory ailment Friday at Bethesda Care Center in Winterset. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset, with burial at the Barney Cemetery.

Mr. Harper, a lifelong Madison County resident, was a retired farmer.

Survivors include three sons, Dana, Don and John W., all of Lorimor; a sister, Yvonne Slight of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

John E. Harper, Barney

Funeral services for John E. Harper, 90, were held Mon. Oct. 1 at Grace Baptist Church.

Mr. Harper died September 28 at Bethesda Care Center.

A farmer and lifetime resident of Madison County. John Elmer Harper was born September 18, 1900 to Joe A. Harper and Nellie Miller Harper. He was married to Verdia Gilbert on October 6, 1919 in Winterset.

Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant grandson and a brother.

Surviving are three sons; Dana Harper, Don Harper and John Wayne Harper all of Lorimor; a sister, Yvonne Slight of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Officiating at the service were Rev. Gary Worsham and Rev. Harold Constant. Burial was at Barney Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials will be made to the family.
